Acrostic
An acrostic poem spells out a word or a message using the first letter of every line. This is also a neat way to create a helpful tool for remembering things! For example, did you know that P.E.M.D.A.S., which you have been using for your math lessons, is an acrostic poem? Each letter of P.E.M.D.A.S. is the beginning letter of the order of operations: Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction!
Pick a word or a phrase that you want to be your topic. Then, write the word or phrase vertically down on the side of a piece of paper. Lastly, use each letter as the first letter of a new word or a sentence (kind of like a crossword) that describes your topic word. These poems do not have to have a certain number of words or syllables. Try adding some rhymes or alliterations to your poem! | Read this example of an acrostic poem about the sun.
